As a former New Yorker, I invite my friends to come here (and some have bought apartments and houses) because of the fabulous cultural offerings in combination with the great weather and beauty of Miami and Miami Beach. As an artist, the museums are my second home and the symphony is something I splurge on when I can. I am looking forward to the world-class museum of fine arts that will bring an even greater respect for Miami from my European colleagues and will bring shows from other great cities to educate our young artists.

We take at least 70 people from our school to travel to Miami/Basel for four days. That should be enough said. We go to see the art. We wouldn’t come for any other reason. If the art scene in Miami isn’t supported all of that will go away and no one will come.

Good point Mark – Art Basel chose Miami based upon our vibrant, supportive cultural community. Will they continue to hold the festival here if our local art scene fades away?
Thanks for your support!

I live in Orlando. I visit Miami about every three months. My main reason for visiting is to see contemporary art. There is nothing like that in Orlando. I also go to Art Basel every year. Miami is an art mecca for me. It may be one of the reasons I still live in Florida. You don’t want to become Orlando. The art scene here is not very interesting. Nobody comes to Orlando to look at art. Miami has become one of the best places in the country to view art. I understand times are tough. I’m always so glad that some horrible developer didn’t come in an bulldoze south beaches art deco architecture. If Miami loses all of its government art funding, I wouldn’t want to be the person that signs that bill and is left with a legacy of lacking any vision.

Miami was ranked 99 out of 100 cities to raise your child in and one of the factors was culture and art. This is shameful, if we take this funding away, Miami may not even make it on this list any more.
You don’t see Chicago, New York, London, Amsterdam or any other fabulous city cutting their government art funding, why would we?

Miami was chosen by ArtBasel to create the most important Art fair in the USA because of its great cultural diversity and energy, please do not hinder Miami´s position by removing cultural funding.

Miami is a great cultural center and it must stay like this. It’s important to live this city like it is so please don’t cut the cultural funding.
I love Miami
